The third iteration of Warzone is set to launch over the next few weeks, bringing with it the introduction of a new big map and major gameplay updates. Here's when we expect it to drop.

Modern Warfare 3 is out now, with this year's Call of Duty title featuring updated gameplay and movement mechanics, as well as the first-ever Zombies open world experience, a bunch of nostalgia-inducing multiplayer maps, and a new single-player campaign (which includes Verdansk from the original Call of Duty: Warzone). But, all of the Warzone players out there still have a few more weeks to wait to experience the reworked battle royale title, which will feature all of the gameplay changes present in MW3, and the new Verdansk-inspired Urzikstan map, which are all coming in the MW3 Season 1 update.

Here's when we think the new MW3 Warzone release date will be, and when you can drop into the third iteration of Call of Duty's battle royale title.

New MW3 Warzone release date

We expect the new MW3 Warzone release date to be Wednesday, December 6. Major Call of Duty updates almost always happen on a Wednesday, and Activision has already confirmed via a blog post that the new Warzone – along with the new Urzikstan map – will be dropping with the MW3 Season 1 update sometime in December.

We've narrowed down the date to the first Wednesday of the month by looking at last year's pattern; the Modern Warfare 2 release date fell on Friday, October 28 and the Warzone 2 release date followed just under three weeks later, on Wednesday, November 16. The start of Modern Warfare 2 Season 1 also kicked off on the same day.

This time around, we saw MW3 release on Friday, November 10, but we know it won't follow the same exact timeline because that would see the new Warzone drop in November. Given that it's been confirmed for December – and almost certainly going to be on a Wednesday as per usual – the next logical date is the Wednesday, December 6. This coincides with our predicted MW3 Season 1 start date.

The new Warzone isn't just getting a new map. With the battle royale title set to connect directly with MW3, it's set to receive several new gameplay updates in tandem with everything that's coming to MW3. These include the new Tac-Stance mechanic (in-between hip-fire and ADS), overhauled loadout building, After-Market parts and, most importantly, the re-introduction of slide cancelling, reload cancelling, and red dots appearing on the mini-map when an enemy fires an unsuppressed weapon.

And, as MW3 is so closely connected with Modern Warfare 2 – which makes sense considering the reports that MW3 was originally meant to be a DLC – players will be able to carry forward all of their operators and weapon progression from the old Warzone title into the new one. So, you can still expect to see loads of Snoop Dogg, Lionel Messi and Nicki Minaj in the new game, hooray!
