A woman, fuelled by wine, stabbed her ex-partner multiple times during a heated argument in his Stockport flat.

Eleanor Davies, 34, claimed she was acting in 'self defence' and that her ex had been violent towards her before. The man suffered two serious wounds from the attack, Minshull Street Crown Court heard. Prosecutors revealed that the pair had once been in a relationship.

Davies arrived at her ex's flat around 10pm on July 20. The ex-partner was annoyed that she gained entry via the intercom by a neighbour, rather than calling him, prosecutor Tom Farr said. Davies, who had been drinking wine, alleged that her ex started shouting and threatened to assault her. She claimed he had been violent before and she was trying to escape. In the ensuing confrontation, Davies armed herself with a knife and inflicted multiple wounds.

She claimed she had acted in 'excessive self defence'. Her lawyer, Isobel Thomas, said that Davies had turned to drink 'to block out her pain' after the death of her long term partner in 2021. Ms Thomas stated that Davies had worked in 'responsible' jobs in shops and a casino previously and is 'determined' to rehabilitate herself.

"It definitely has been a wake-up call for her," Ms Thomas said about Davies' time in prison. "It is fair to say she is desperate to be released and turn her life around." Ms Thomas mentioned that Davies has accommodation, but it would be lost if she didn't return there by January.

In his sentencing remarks, Recorder Geoffrey Lowe told Davies: "You had, you say, been the subject of violence from him before. He was annoyed that evening. You thought he was going to assault you, you armed yourself with a knife." The judge expressed his belief that Davies could be rehabilitated, stating: "This is the best way of protecting society from further offending in this case."

Davies, from Lancashire Hill, Heaton Norris, admitted to unlawful wounding. She received a 12-month suspended sentence, was ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work, and complete 25 rehabilitation activity requirement days.
