Mum won't go in her back garden anymore after watching chilling CCTV footage
A mum said motorists have turned her back garden into a no-go area due to the amount of crashes that take place on the road behind her house – with some vehicles smashing through walls into gardens.
Laura Collard has lived in her home in Netherley, Liverpool for five years and says she has been so shocked at the number of accidents that have taken place since she has installed CCTV to capture any accidents where drivers end up in her garden. The 36-year-old, who lives in the house with her partner and 10-year-old son, said she and her neighbours now fear for their safety on a daily basis as cars have previously crashed though brick walls and into their gardens.

The rider and bike narrowly avoided one car, before the sliding bike crashed into another, which was travelling on the opposite side of the road. The motorbike rider could be seen holding himself up in the middle of the road as witnesses stopped to check they were OK. Merseyside Police confirmed the woman riding the motorbike suffered minor injuries.
She told the Liverpool Echo: "We have lived here for four or five years, and when we first moved in we were told that a car had gone through the back fence around three years before. We didn't think much of it until it happened while we were living there. We have had to install a CCTV camera just in case a car comes through the back. We have caught cars going through next door's back wall, and people who live over the road from us.
"We don't use our back garden anymore just in case somebody comes through, we're lucky to have a front garden we can use. Our next door neighbours don't even mow their grass anymore or go out the back because it just happens over and over again. It's scary."

One of Laura's neighbour's back wall has a fence in front of it due to a recent accident that saw a car knock it down and Laura, referencing the CCTV footage, continued: "It could have been so much worse, there was a man in a red coat walking past and he could have easily been hurt. I just want drivers to know that there is a bend on the road, with the accidents they sometimes take out the streetlights, which makes it look like it's a through road and not a bend.
"I have got in touch with the council about this [the accidents] but nobody ever gets back to you. Sometimes I will message them about fly-tipping and they will come out the next day to do it. I worry that it will take somebody being seriously hurt for action to be taken on the road. I think the council needs to put up some sort of barrier or a sign to say sharp bend ahead."
A second clip taken on November 20, 2022 at around 6.30am shows a car leaving Childwall Valley Road on its side before flipping on the grass bank. A person manages to pull themselves out the back passenger side of the car before waving down another passing vehicle. The road has a 30mph speed limit and there are two triangle road signs warning drivers of a bend in the road ahead. There are also “SLOW” carriageway markings and central hatching on each approach to the bend.
A spokesperson for Liverpool City Council said: “We are awaiting additional information from Merseyside Police regarding any recent reported injury road traffic collisions at this location. We will then undertake a review of the location to assess the condition of the road infrastructure and whether any improvement works are required.”
