Janey Godley 'happy' as she shares update on her terminal and incurable cancer

Scottish comedian Janey Godley has shared that she is "happy" as her latest scan shows her incurable cancer is "at bay".

The 62 year old, who revealed in November 2021 that she was being treated for ovarian cancer, spoke about her current treatment plan in a video posted to X, former known as Twitter.

In the video, the much-loved comic said: "I've got the news I've been dreading, but waiting for, and the scan results have came back and they're clear, which means that I do still have terminal and incurable ovarian cancer, but the treatment that I'm on, the maintenance treatment, is keeping it at bay just now."

Janey added: "So that means that I can't wait to do the tour at the end of January and beginning of February. But all your support and all your love has lifted me up. Thank you. Thank you."

Godley will kick off her 'Not Dead Yet' comedy tour early next year, visiting cities and towns across the UK including Bristol, Epsom, Norwich and Milton Keynes. This year, she was honoured with the inaugural Sir Billy Connolly Spirit of Glasgow Award at the 2023 Glasgow International Comedy Festival.

The comic gained online fame with her humorous voiceovers of former Scotland First Minister Nicola Sturgeon's coronavirus news briefings during the pandemic. She appeared in Scottish Government coronavirus adverts but they were withdrawn after offensive tweets by her were uncovered following an investigation by the Daily Beast website.

Janey was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in November 2021 and has since undergone chemotherapy treatment and a hysterectomy procedure. In June last year, the comedy star shared a video on social media in which she told fans: "I’ve just had a phone call from the cancer specialist and the scan has come back clear."

But in a video message shared with her Twitter followers in December, Janey shared how recent tests had revealed her cancer had returned. "My recent scan and my blood tests showed that my cancer marker went up," the star explained in the video. There’s still a bit of disease in my abdomen.

She added: "So I want you all to know that I’ll be going through some more chemotherapy. I also want you to know that I’m going ahead with the tour in February and March. I am determined to get back on stage."
