Scottie Scheffler has brutally trolled fellow Masters winner Bubba Watson ahead of this year's Champions dinner at Augusta. Scheffler will be the man in charge of this year's annual dinner, having won last year's tournament by three shots.

The event sees past champions from years gone by meet up for a wine and dine experience, with the menu chosen by the reigning champion. The biggest question usually for the host is deciding what they will serve their fellow winners.

Scheffler though may well be thinking about the evening's seating arrangements, with the sport currently split into two amid the PGA Tour's battle with LIV Golf.

A number of past Masters winners have made the Saudi switch, including Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and two-time champion Watson. Amid the ongoing feud, Scheffler revealed ahead of this week's Sentry Tournament of Champions that he recently bumped into the 44-year-old on holiday after being quizzed about the awkwardness surrounding his Augusta dinner.

Jokingly, the world No. 2 suggested to Watson that he would be seated on a 'separate table'. "I haven’t seen many of the LIV guys. I saw Bubba [Watson} on vacation this year and I told him that I was just gonna have a separate table for him in the corner by himself,” Scheffler said laughing.

The emergence of LIV Golf, and the PGA Tour's hard-hitting response to suspend any player who has made the leap has led to a civil war within the sport. The defending Masters champion however believes a trip to Augusta can help players on the rivalling circuits put their differences aside for such a special occasion.

He went on: "I think for a few weeks a year we can put all that aside. especially with Augusta National being such a special place and with the history of the game and whatnot. I think we can put all our stuff aside and just get together for a fun meal.

"All in a room together and just kind of celebrate the game of golf and Augusta National and just hang out.”

Describing the current war within professional golf as 'sad', Scheffler added: "In the world of golf, I think it’s definitely a little sad what’s happening.

“It’s kind of weird this week. I get to my locker, and my locker’s next to Cam Smith’s locker because he’s a past champ here, and he’s not here. So it’s a little strange, but golf will move on. I think this stuff just takes time. Things will heal and we’ll see what happens."

Defending champion Smith is unable to defend his title in Hawaii this week following his move to LIV Golf last summer.
