Friends star Matt LeBlanc paid a touching tribute to pal and former co-star Matthew Perry two weeks after the star's sudden death.

Matt, who starred as Joey in the iconic sitcom left a lengthy social media comment alongside a number of throwback images of the pair in his first words since Matthew's death at 54. In it, Matt said Matthew, who played the hilarious role of Chandler, was "finally free". He also made a funny dig at his friend, claiming he still owed him 20 bucks.

Matt took to Instagram to share the heartfelt post. He wrote: "Matthew. It is with a heavy heart I say goodbye. The times we had together are honestly among the favorite times of my life."

He continued: "It was an honor to share the stage with you and to call you my friend. I will always smile when I think of you and I’ll never forget you. Never. Spread your wings and fly brother you’re finally free. Much love. And I guess you’re keeping the 20 bucks you owe me."

His comments were met be a further outpour of emotion from fans in the comments section, with many still in shock at Matthew's sudden death. Among them was influencer Sarah Nicole Landry, who simply wrote: "We love you," alongside a red love heart emoji.

Ashley Smouter also responded with a single love heart emoji, while a number of fans shared gifs from famous scenes involving the pair.

Matthew was was found dead in his Los Angeles home on October 28 after reportedly drowning in his hot tub. At the time, law enforcement sources said that no drugs were discovered at the scene and there is no indication of foul play. His death certificate still indicates the cause of death as being inconclusive amid further tests.

In the years before Matthew's tragic passing, he had been vocal about his struggles with opioid addiction. He suffered from an opioid overdose several years ago, which led to him needing to go to hospital. landed him in the hospital. After his colon burst, his loved ones were told he would only have a 2% chance of survival and after he thankfully pulled through, he went through an extensive recovery process that included surgeries and rehabilitation centre visits.
