Woman asks 'are you a Jew?' before threatening passengers in heated bus row

Shocking footage shows the moment a bus passenger asks "are you a Jew?" in a heated row on a bus.

Ed Leon Klinger shared a video of the alarming incident on social media, which he said happened in London on Saturday and was filmed by a friend.

The businessman told his followers that it showed the type of abuse now being experienced by Jewish people amid a huge rise in anti-Semitic incidents in the capital. He wrote on X (formerly Twitter): "This video was recorded yesterday by a friend of mine in London. Welcome to the new reality for British Jews.

The clip begins with the woman, who has not been identified, asking a person whether they are Jewish, before angrily batting at the camera when she realises she is being filmed. She then repeatedly asks "why are you recording me", as two fellow passengers begin to confront her about what she said.

The woman threatens to "smash" a woman's glasses into her eyes, and then says: "'Cause I said something about Jews? Free Palestine - I support Palestine. You're lucky I don't smash your phone you know." A passenger then tells her that what she is saying is "offensive", and two of them ask her to get off the bus. The clip ends with her sitting sideways on a seat as she refuses to leave, and says: "Get me off the bus".

A spokesperson from the Metropolitan Police told the Mirror: "We are aware of a video circulating showing an incident that we believed to have taken place on a bus in Kentish Town, Camden. We have reached out to the person who shared the video to obtain further information.

"Further enquiries are ongoing. There have been no arrests at this time. Police have been clear that there is no place in London for hate. Anyone who has information that could assist police should call 101 ref CAD 6095/12 Nov". In late October, the force said antisemitic hate crimes in London had increased by 1,350% in the weeks following the outbreak of the Hamas-Israel war.
