Hogwarts Legacy Switch – release time, file size, and editions available
The wizarding world of Harry Potter is set to arrive on Nintendo’s hybrid system – despite initially launching only on current-gen consoles earlier this year.
Hogwarts Legacy was released exclusively on Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and PC back in February as a way to let players finally live out the fantasy of enrolling in the titular wizard school; the kind of fantasy Harry Potter fans the world over have dreamed of since forever. So graphically intense was this video game rendition of all things witchcraft and wizardry, however, the PS4 and Xbox One versions didn’t arrive until three months later. That’s why it’s still rather surprising to see a Hogwarts Legacy Nintendo Switch version now on the cusp of release.
Hogwarts Legacy on Nintendo Switch promises to be the same game which players on PlayStation and Xbox devices got to experience earlier this year, albeit with a few concessions. If you’re eager to find out the specific Hogwarts Legacy Nintendo Switch release time, file size, frame rate and how else the game will differ on Nintendo’s hybrid device, we’ve got you covered.
Hogwarts Legacy Switch – release time
Hogwarts Legacy on Nintendo Switch is set to release on Tuesday, November 14 both as a digital purchase (in either the standard or digital Deluxe edition) and physically on a cartridge at retail. This day falls perfectly in line with the same time of the week that the Nintendo eShop updates every week, making the Hogwarts Legacy Nintendo Switch release time likely to be 12pm GMT / 7am ET / 4am PT. Unfortunately, as is normally the case on Nintendo Switch, there is currently no Hogwarts Legacy preload available.
Hogwarts Legacy Switch – file size
You’d typically expect to need a lot of storage for a game as graphically intense and sweeping as Hogwarts Legacy. However, the official listing on the Nintendo Switch eShop has the Hogwarts Legacy Nintendo Switch file size sitting at 7GB. However, WB Games has also stated that a further 8GB of space will be needed for the game’s day one patch, with a further 1.5GB of storage needed for each language pack. This means you're looking at a minimum of 15GB to play Hogwarts Legacy on Nintendo Switch at launch.

Hogwarts Legacy on Nintendo Switch is available for purchase in two distinct editions. The standard edition comes with the base game and will retail for £49.99 / $59.99 / AU$89.95 upon release. The Digital Deluxe edition, however, comes with a few cosmetic treats and will retail for £59.99 / $69.99 / AU$99.95. What do you get for that slight price increase? Here’s the list of the Digital Deluxe edition’s bonus treats:
- Thestral Mount
- Dark Arts Battle Arena
- Dark Arts Cosmetic Set
- Dark Arts Garrison Hat
All four cosmetic items won’t be available until finishing the brief prologue sequence at the start of the game. Luckily, this doesn’t take very long to complete, and you can always transmogrify any of the more powerful items you’ll acquire as part of the story to appear as any of the exclusive items above.
