Tekken 8 has officially revealed its final launch roster and once again, the leaks were correct, as newcomer Reina was revealed as the game's final fighter.

Bandai Namco and Evo held the Evo Tekken 8 Showcase over the weekend, which brought all seven winners of Tekken 7 at Evo together to showcase the next King of Iron Fist tournament a bit early. Unsurprisingly, Arslan Ash, who has won four Evo titles in Tekken 7 (Evo Japan 2019, Evo 2019, Evo Japan 2023, and Evo 2023) took home the win in dominating fashion by using the newcomer Azucena.

Following the tournament was a Tekken Talk panel featuring Evo's MarkMan and Tekken Project's Katsuhiro Harada, Michael Murray, and Kohei Ikeda. During this section, they discussed the upcoming Tekken World Tour 2023 finals, the newcomer Victor, and the returning fighters to the Tekken 8 roster announced last month.

Finally, a new trailer premiered – and after scaring every Tekken 7 competitive player with a statue of Street Fighter's Akuma in the background of the new Secluded Training Ground stage – the new fighter Reina was confirmed. The newcomer was confirmed to be a student at the Mishima Polytechnical School and has a keen interest in fighting Jin Kazama.

The biggest rumour surrounding Reina before her reveal was that she could be the secret daughter of Tekken mainstay Heihachi Mishima. While there was no direct confirmation of this during the trailer itself, Reina pulled out some familiar moves – including the iconic Electric Wind God Fist – and can also harness the power of lightning like her supposed father. Plus, the song in her reveal trailer has a striking resemblance to Kazuya's Tekken 2 theme, adding more fuel to the fire that there's some kind of Mishima family connection.

Heihachi Mishima is dead

Many players – myself included – had speculated that Reina would wholly adopt Heihachi's moveset for Tekken 8. Heihachi was an integral part of every single Tekken game up until his death at the end of Tekken 7's story mode, so for that moveset to be gone completely in Tekken 8 is a bit of a shock – even if Reina and Kuma are taking a few cues from the dearly departed Mishima family patriarch.

But then again, it would feel pretty cheap for one of the three newcomers in Tekken 8 to recycle a moveset from earlier in the series. Reina has her unique style of Mishima karate while bringing in some of the staples of that style (like the aforementioned Electric Wind God Fist). We'll need to wait until Tekken 8 arrives to find out how much of an impact this previously unknown relative will make, in what should be the final chapter of the Mishima saga, but at least she seems like a pretty cool fighter regardless.
