Police hunt for car after horror hit-and-run leaves two women seriously injured

A driver who mowed down two women runners and left them with serious injuries before fleeing the scene is being hunted down by cops.

The victims were jogging along Dock Road in Grays, shortly after 8.10pm last Wednesday, when the dark-coloured BMW hit them. After the alleged hit-and-run the suspect is believed to have overtaken another car. Police are trying to trace both vehicles, the BMW and the Ford Fiesta that was passed by the BMW.

The incident took place near the junction with Marshfoot Road and Old Dock Approach Road and the BMW sped off along Old Dock Approach Road towards the B149 Wood View after the collision. The women were rushed to hospital with serious injuries as a result. Police have issued CCTV images showing the suspect BMW car and the Ford Fiesta.

Officers said they are looking to find the driver of the Ford Fiesta in order to gain witness accounts. Detective Sergeant Steve Holmes, from the Essex Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Two people have sustained really serious injuries as a result of this collision and it’s really important we’re able to find the driver involved. I know these images are not the clearest, but I hope releasing them will trigger someone’s memory. I believe the impact of the collision will have left the car involved with damage to it and this would be visible."

According to Essex Live, he added: “Has a neighbour returned home with damage to their car that wasn’t there in before? Have they parked their car differently to how they usually do? If you recognise the vehicle or have seen something suspicious, please report it to us.” Any witnesses or CCTV footage from the area please contact Essex Police, quoting incident number 1095 of November 8."

The incident comes just over a week after a 15-year-old Essex boy was hit and killed by a car in the rural village of Stock. Freddie Coleman was struck by a vehicle on the morning of November 3, and a second teenage boy was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition. A 23-year-old man who was arrested after the incident on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drink or drugs has been released pending further police enquiries.

Emergency services were called to Stock Road, in Stock, Essex, shortly after 8.20am after reports of a vehicle colliding with two children. Essex Police said that despite all efforts from medics at the scene, one of the children died. The second child was taken to the hospital for treatment.
