When it comes to personal hygiene it's important to keep clean, and with all the varieties of products available it can be easy enough to find something that works for you.

However, for those with a beard, it can be trickier to keep your face clean. Beards are on the rise, and more and more men are starting to keep their facial hair seeing stubble and hair on younger men is a common thing now.

Although you may want to think twice before you go in for a kiss, as there are some pretty gross things going on among the stubble.

Dr Muneeb Shah, known as the "Derm Doctor " on TikTok has shared some insights into why beards can be an issue - especially for those kissing someone with a beard. It was when a woman shared a video about noticing red spots appear on her chin after she "kissed a guy with facial hair".

The doctor then took the opportunity to urge men to clean their beards. He stressed that you don't need to shave it off clean, but you should make sure you "keep them in good shape" and well maintained as hygiene is "key". Further explaining his point, the doctor revealed beards can carry a lot of bacteria such as staph.

Because of this, if someone rubs their face against someone's beard, it could cause small cuts, which could then lead to all sorts of infections developing. One of these is impetigo, and according to the NHS, it's a red rash that can develop and is "contagious but not usually serious", and can be treated with antibiotic cream or tablets.

However it's not all bad, and having a beard can be good for men, it's a good way to keep your face warm in the winter. It has also been proven that bearded people were "cleaner" than those who were clean-shaven, according to The Star. It was also found that a beard can help to soften skin and "it's thought this is because it prevents you from touching it all the time."
