A mum said a man punched her after chasing her for five minutes because she overtook him on a dual carriageway in a disgusting road-rage incident.

The furious driver was caught on camera appearing to lift his fist to the terrified mum after she claims he chased her into a Lidl car park. Linda Schofield says the raging motorist took umbrage with her overtaking him on a dual carriageway after leaving Sainsbury's in Camberley, Surrey, on October 25.

The male driver thought the 57-year-old mum-of-two had almost 'caused a crash', and allegedly pursued Linda for five minutes all the way to the retailer's car park, where he confronted her in front of other shoppers.

The shocking footage shows the driver say: "I'm going to punch you in the face" while holding up his fist – before allegedly thumping the terrified mum twice as witnesses shouted to "get his number plate".

The angry man then fled as Linda begged a passersby to call the police. Farm shop worker Linda, who lives in Camberley, said the incident left her feeling "shocked and intimidated" and she admitted she fears coming across the man again while she is doing her shopping.

She said: "I was shocked and shaken. It makes you feel like you're not safe. I feel intimidated by him. It was just vile. A lot of people said why didn't you punch him back? But I was just in shock. I was scared he was going to attack me again.

"If I turned around and pushed him, I didn't know what he would do. I was scared I would get seriously hurt. It's definitely made me nervous to go back to Lidl. And I'm really wary of blue Ford Fiestas now. What do I do if I see him in the shop?"

Hampshire Police confirmed they were investigating reports of a man who allegedly threatened a woman and hit her back twice before driving away and appealed for any information from the public.

The worried mum said the incident occurred after overtaking the driver on a dual carriageway when leaving the supermarket Sainsbury's and she claims the motorist then followed her for five minutes to nearby Lidl.

Linda said: "He was in front of me at the traffic lights to come out of Sainsbury's then we both went left. Then I overtook him on the dual carriageway, not dangerously or anything. I wasn't speeding.

"After I'd overtaken him, at the next traffic lights, I could see that he was behind me and trying to get closer and closer to my bumper. And I thought that's a bit weird. Then the traffic lights turned to green and I indicated to go to Lidl and I looked and he was coming in as well.

"He was following me into Lidl car park – he wasn't intending to go to Lidl. As I parked he whizzed up at the side of me, left his car in gear so his car lurched forward so that's when I thought this isn't right and pressed record on my phone. I thought what is he doing? I was concerned.

"He said something like 'you're trying to crash'. And I thought how on earth have I done that? Then he said 'I'm going to punch you in the face'. There was no prior conversation." Linda then went to film the driver's number plate but it was then that the man allegedly walked round his car and punched her in the back twice – leaving her with two red marks.

Linda said: "It hurt and I had two red marks afterwards. I went into Lidl to see if they had CCTV and the manager called the police. She looked at my back and said you've got red marks on your back. It's scary and unexpected. I was on my own. My family was fuming. Nobody who sees that video can believe it. All I did was overtake him on the dual carriageway."

Linda submitted an online report to Hampshire Police the following day and said an officer informed her the driver would be given a caution. However, the concerned mum believes the motorist should be prosecuted to prevent any further attacks.

Linda added: "I said to the police officer 'will he not be prosecuted for this?'. I said 'it may not be urgent for you, but it is for me'. I don't think the police are bothered about this guy going around punching people."

A spokesperson for Hampshire Police said: "We were called on October 25 to a report of an assault at the Lidl car park on London Road in Blackwater. A woman was threatened by a man, who then hit her in the back twice. Officers have launched an investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact 101, quoting 44230436907. "

And a Lidl spokesperson said: "We can confirm that on the October 25, colleagues at our Blackwater store provided comfort and support to a member of the public following an incident that occurred outside of the store."
