Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney appear to have had the last laugh in their unlikely Hollywood feud with Billy Sharp, after the striker was released by LA Galaxy on Friday.

Sharp found himself at the centre of a fallout with Reynolds and McElhenney's Wrexham, following an FA Cup fourth round clash last season whilst playing for Sheffield United. After drawing 2-2 at the Racecourse, the then National League side were defeated by the Blades 3-1 in the replay to bring their impressive cup run to an end.

Afterwards the former Sheffield United stalwart Sharp launched an attack on the North Wales-based club in a post-match interview, before clashing with Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson.

In the months following, Sharp left Bramall Lane for Los Angeles, a place known well to Wrexham owners Reynolds and McElhenney. In September, the striker reignited his Wrexham feud after admitting he was more than happy to be involved in the Hollywood documentary covering the former non-league club named 'Welcome To Wrexham'.

"If they want to put me in the documentary, go ahead. I think people in Los Angeles probably know me now for scoring goals rather than knocking (Wrexham) out of the FA Cup," Sharp told The Athletic. "People don’t even know the real story.

"Wrexham will put out what they want to on their documentary, and maybe I'll put out my own and tell them what really happened. I scored the goal, which knocked them out, and a little scuffle happened in the changing room. I don’t really like their manager anyway from past experiences, and he probably doesn’t like me."

Less than two months on though, Sharp's time scoring goals in Los Angeles is now over, after being cut from the Galaxy's roster. The former Sheffield United captain's drama with the Welsh club was included in series two of the documentary, which covered Wrexham's rollercoaster return to the Football League as well as their FA Cup run.

In the Disney+ show, both Reynolds and McElhenney could not resist a dig at ex-Blades forward. Reynolds said: "It was really interesting. It was psychology 101. It was like 'oh we own you right now'. You're a Championship team, and second place in the Championship, you guys are amazing.

"And this guy, we just got under his skin. It was so, so wonderful to see that we got under that guy's skin the way we did." McElhenney also joined in on the discussion, adding: "We were living rent-free in that motherf*****'s brain!"

Sharp's release from the Major League Soccer franchise came as a surprise to many, after the veteran striker enjoyed an impressive run of form during his short stint in the United States. In 12 MLS games, Sharp found the net six times, whilst also laying on one assist. Overall it was a season to forget for the Galaxy as they missed out on a playoff spot, finishing second bottom in the Western Conference.
