Man fatally gunned down by friend who choked his dog during a heated argument

A man was shot and killed after he allegedly tried to choke his friend's dog, whilst arguing at home in northwest Houston on Friday. Police were called to the 900 block of Shirkmere Road just before 8pm, after reports of a shooting, a ccording to Lt. Larry Crowson, who is affiliated with the Houston Police Department.

Upon arrival, the officers found a man dead, before a separate person turned himself into the police for shooting him.

The man who turned himself in said he and his friend found themselves in an argument. The friend started choking his dog, and in defence of the dog, the man said he shot and murdered him.

Homicide investigators will be attempting to talk to witnesses, and will then contact the Harris County District Attorney's Office to check if any charges will be filed. According to authorities, the dog is expected to be fine.

In another shooting in Houston several months ago, one person was left dead, a pregnant woman was injured, and another man wounded. Houston Police Department rushed to the scene, in southeast Houston on an early Sunday morning at around 1:38am.

According to preliminary reports, the shooting appeared to be triggered by a heated argument, although the specific nature of the dispute remains unclear. Upon arriving at the scene, located in the 4600 block of Almeda Genoa, police discovered two victims, a man, and a pregnant woman; both of whom had been shot.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Family identified him as 29-year-old Donald James, ABC13 reports. His mother confirmed that he was a father to five children.

The pregnant woman, who had suffered a gunshot wound to her arm, was rushed to a local hospital. Doctors said both the woman and her unborn child were expected to recover.
