A pair of blundering thieves crashed into a pole after grabbing a cash box off a security guard outside Tesco Express.

After smashing into the pole, the pair reportedly made their getaway in a cash transit van. Merseyside Police said they were called to the scene in. Huyton, Liverpool, at around 9.20am on Friday after receiving reports of a man stealing a cash box.

Arriving at the scene officers realised the pair had managed to escape, but that their van had burst into flames a little further down the road. Dramatic footage, posted on the Huyton Times Facebook page, shows firefighters tackling the blaze

The two men, who were dressed in dark clothing, then ran off with the cash box. They got into a silver car and drove off towards Liverpool Road, according to the Liverpool Echo.
