THE BIG BREAKAWAY is fancied to cut loose in the 62nd Badger Beer Handicap Chase (2.25) at Wincanton this afternoon.

Joe Tizzard’s eight-year-old has a fine record on his first outing of the campaign, including when beaten a head in a big-money contest on Haydock Park’s Betfair Chase undercard last November.

The Big Breakaway then finished second in the Welsh Grand National in December, before failing to finish behind Corach Rambler at the Cheltenham Festival and in the Grand National at Aintree in April.

My selection’s handicap mark is within range – he’s 1lb higher than when chasing home The Two Amigos at Chepstow last Christmas – and the Tizzard team is in flying form.

Tizzard’s former boss Paul Nicholls, an 11-time winner of the race, saddles reigning champion Frodon and favourite Threeunderthrufive , but this is the time to catch The Big Breakaway, who can net the £41,608 first prize.

COOPER’S CROSS has some unfinished business to conclude in the BoyleSports Grand Sefton Handicap Chase (2.45) at Aintree today.

Tackling the Grand National fences for the first time in the Topham Handicap Chase last April, the Stuart Coltherd-saddled eight-year-old was in the process of running a blinder when he was the victim of a shoulder charge from seventh home Demachine and came down at the fourth-last fence.

Cooper’s Cross made light of that experience to run second to Kitty’s Light in the Scottish Grand National eight days later, and a 3lb rise in the weights should not prevent another good account.

Olly Murphy’s BREWIN’UPASTORM gets the vote to lift the BoyleSports Acca Boost On Horse Racing Hurdle (3.20) for the second time.

Successful in the race in 2021, the 10-year-old unseated Sean Bowen at the first flight 12 months ago but showed he is still a force to be reckoned with when lifting the Grade 2 National Spirit Hurdle at Fontwell Park in February.

Newcastle stages the Virgin Bet November Handicap (3.45) card, on which TEUMESSIAS FOX has plenty going for him in the feature.

Since landing a handicap over this trip on the 2,000 Guineas undercard back in May, the Andrew Balding trainee has mostly run with credit in the face of some stiffish tasks.

His record on the all-weather – two wins and two thirds from four attempts – is another plus.

She found the competition too hot in the Group 1 British Champions Sprint at Ascot three weeks ago, but SENSE OF DUTY rates a worthy favourite as she drops in class for the Listed Virgin Bet Every Saturday Money Back Wentworth Stakes (2.05, Nap).

The Listed Virgin Bet Daily Extra Places Irish EBF Gillies Fillies’ Stakes (1.30) can go to SOUND ANGELA , who was beaten narrowly in the same grade at Saint-Cloud at the end of September.

At Wincanton, Paul Nicholls supplies favourite Rubaud for the Grade 2 JenningsBet Elite Hurdle (3.00), but the value may lie with the returning HANSARD , who made great strides over obstacles as a novice last season.

The champion trainer still looks on for an ITV4 double, however, courtesy of KNAPPERS HILL in the Grade 2 Boodles “Rising Stars” Novices’ Chase (1.50) and LIME AVENUE in the JenningsBet Richard Barber Memorial Handicap Hurdle (3.32).

FRAGRANT DELITIEP has two wins, four seconds and a third to show from nine races over fences at Wincanton, so should go well in the Boodles Handicap Chase (1.15).
