Heart-stopping footage shows the moment a pregnant woman became the victim of an attempted carjacking before a brave Samaritan stepped in.

The incident occurred in Ocala, Florida, when alleged suspect Michael Prouty, wanted for selling a car and breaking and entering, suddenly crashed while pursued by police and decided to flee on foot. Even after the crash injured a number of people, he ran towards the nearby Starbucks and began to attempt to carjack a woman, but passer-by Shane Spicer stepped in.

"I’m going to get you, buddy," he said he shouted at the time, according to WSVN. "You’re not going anywhere now. You crossed the line."

He added: "I feel like if you’ve got the ability to watch out for someone... you should. I would just hope that someone would do the same for my family." Spicer, an army veteran, was seen in footage prevented Pouty from escaping by jumping into the car and holding onto him.

"We are proud of these two citizens for their heroic action, for helping our officers make the arrest, and for keeping our community safe." Ocala Police Chief Mike Balken said in a news release. The grateful pregnant woman later reached out to thank Spicer, while another good samaritan who helped has not been publicly identified.

Also this week, footage emerged of the shocking moment hero cops rescued a terrified five-year-old girl from being hidden in a closet. Tense video captured on a police body camera reveals the response by police during a search warrant at the home of a 40-year-old man.

Officers were at the home to aid the state Department of Human Services (DHS) in taking custody of the girl. "She was very emotional when she came out and pretty scared," Detective Keith Lindley said. "He had instructed her not to make a sound or reveal she was back there."

A suspect was arrested on charges of first-degree child endangerment and interference with court-ordered custody. He is due in court on December 4.

Bodycam footage routinely reveals dramatic policing moments in the US. This month footage of hero cops dealing with the wildfires that struck the Hawaiian island of Maui in August.

In footage, an officer sprinted from house to house in the historic town of Lahaina, alerting people to the approaching inferno. Another coughed and swore as he drove through thick smoke past burning buildings with people he rescued crammed in the back seat. With no ambulance available, one officer offered to bring a severely burned man to a hospital.
