Staff and patients visiting a hospital say they are regularly getting stuck in a "terrible" car park which has left some motorists trapped for 40 minutes.

The "shockingly bad" car park next to Hull Royal Infirmary has left people frustrated due to what visitors say is the way it's laid out. People visiting have already complained to the private parking company, which charges £4 for the minimum stay but has no marked bays, leaving some cars blocked on all sides.

The company meanwhile claims it can't paint marked bays due the site's stony surface, and instead has had to resort to using sleepers. Pictures have shown the nightmare facing motorists using the car park, with one depicting an entire row of cars blocked in due to others vehicles.

Staff at the NHS hospital also regularly use the car park and have complained of their frustration, with one staff member having been reportedly blocked in following a long shift. One person revealed: "This is what my wife found after a 10 hour shift today," Hull Live reports.

"She had to climb in through the passenger side." Another added: "I had to wait 40 mins until the numpties came back to their car after finishing my shift!" Another person said: "It's a shockingly bad car park. No structure, lack of defined bays, Dead ends.

"It's basically a wasteland free for all in places. But you pay a premium to use it! Imagine rushing to see a sick relative, stressed, worried, You can't find a space. It's disgusting it's allowed to be kept in this state."

A spokesperson for Bank Park told Hull Live that they had refunded a customer who complained earlier, covering both parking and taxi fare. They explained: "The car park is not a patrolled site, it is operated by ANPR cameras."
