Yui-Gi-Oh 25th Anniversary Rarity Collection - Our pull rates from one full box

To celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game, Konami has released a number of special releases, including the latest 25th Anniversary Rarity Collection. The set contains 79 of the game's most popular cards, in Super Rare, Ultra Rare, and Secret Rare prints.

Each Booster contains 2 Super Rares, 1 Secret Rare, and 2 Ultra Rares, with the Secret Rares having a 1-in-4 chance of being upgraded to a Platinum Secret Rare or Quarter Century Rare, and the Ultra Rares having a 1-in-6 chance of being upgraded to a "Prismatic" Collector's Rare, or "Prismatic Ultra Rare".

The Platinum Secret Rares are very similar to the Secret Rare, only with a holographic border around the text boxes. The Prismatic rares however are exceptionally different, boasting a holographic finish across the entire card. The Ultimate Rare also has a raised 3D varnish effect, making it extra striking.

Pull Rates - Theoretical and Actual

The official pull rates are 1-in-4 for upgraded Secret Rares, and 1-in-6 for each of the upgraded Ultra Rares. This means that we should expect 7 out of 12 packs to contain some kind of upgraded rare, meaning 14 in the whole box. We'd expect 6 to be Platinum Secret Rares or Quarter Century Rare, 4 to be Ultimate Rare, and 4 to be Collectors Rare.

So what did we get? Did Box Bias factor into it?

Out of 24 packs, 11 contained no upgrades. Of the remaining 13 packs, we pulled 16 upgraded rares, listed below:

Quarter Century Rares: 3

  • Pre-preparation of Rites
  • Number 100: Numeron Dragon
  • Elder Entity N'tss

Platinum Secret Rares: 4

  • Inspector Boarder
  • Ancient Fairy Dragon
  • Alpha, Master of Beasts
  • Change of Heart

Prismatic Collectors Rare: 2

  • Small World
  • Blue Eyes Abyss Dragon

Prismatic Ultimate Rare: 7

It's also worth noting that three packs contained two upgraded rares, meaning the upgraded rares are spread evenly across all the cards, not the packs themselves.

For what its worth, the market value of the cards seems to imply that Quarter Century Rares are the most sought after, followed by Prismatic Ultimate Rare and Prismatic Collector’s Rare (which seem to be of equal value at this point), followed by Platinum Secret Rares, then Secret Rares, Super Rares, and Ultra Rares.

The best pulls are "Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring", which is valued over $150.00 at the time of writing in Quarter Century Rarity, followed by "Infinite Impermanence", and "Triple Tactics Talent" also in Quarter Century Rarity, both of which are around $60.

The 25th Anniversary Rarity Collection is available now, from wherever you usually buy your cards from.
