Ange Postecoglou's VAR warning as Spurs' unbeaten start ends amid Chelsea chaos

Ange Postecoglou warned VAR is ruining football after Tottenham suffered a disastrous defeat as they lost their unbeaten start to the season.

Tottenham had Destiny Udogie and Cristian Romero sent off, and Micky van de ven and James Maddison both went off injured on a madcap night at White Hart Lane.

Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson ended up with a hat-trick as the visitors ran riot against Tottenham’s nine men on Mauricio Piochettino’s return to his old club. But Spurs boss Postecoglou was left bemoaning video technology as his side now face being without key players for the next few games.

Postecoglou, whose side missed the chance to regain top spot, said: "I don't like it, [but] it is the way the game is going.

“Some of it is self inflicted because if we come out every week complaining about decision that is what will happen, every decision gets forensically checked and we will be sitting around for a long time in every game trying to figure out what is going on.

"I don't like it but I am probably in the wilderness with that because I keep getting told that's where we want to go. I am too old school, I'll respect the referee's decision right or wrong. But it is the way the game is going.

“[I'm] Disappointed by the result but really proud of the players, they gave everything and that is the positive we will take.”

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino added: “This is football. We won and deserved it. The technology is there and we need to accept [it]. Many things happen on the pitch and you need to verify and check.

“I think we deserve the credit. Tottenham are doing fantastic but tonight I think we were the better team. I think 4-1 in the end we deserved the victory and the three points and it is really important because we have a really important game next with Manchester City.”
