Footage shows road workers pouring concrete neatly around a car during resurfacing leaving a giant hole after it was removed.

Strangely the decision was made to carry on the work that was being done to the road around the car that was left, with a cover even put over the vehicle so it wasn't damaged in the Polish city of Lodz on November 3.

Images show the workers carefully placing a plastic cover over the car after having boxed it in before they are seen pouring copious amounts of concrete around to get the job done. Then a later clip shows the car with the cover removed and the work completed on the street while bemused locals look on and news crews took pictures and film it.

The vehicle has quickly become a sensation in the city, with people flocking to see it while the car has since apparently vanished from the spot, disappearing overnight on Saturday, according to Polish media. It is currently unclear who removed the vehicle, as its owner has reportedly still not been found.

All that remains now is the rectangular hole in the concrete where the vehicle used to be. A Facebook group, LDZ Zmotoryzowani Łodzianie, that works towards “improving infrastructure in Lodz and showing absurdities on the streets” also shared the story which has gone viral online.

It stated that the authorities “were ridiculed in front of the whole Poland, they couldn't identify the owner from the license plates.” An administrator of the site told local media that contractors working on Legionow Street were unable to find the owner of the car and so they called the police. But the authorities were not able to identify the owner and so police left a parking ticket and a summons under the car’s windscreen wiper.

Speaking to news outlet Polsat, a spokesman for the city, Paweł Śpiechowicz, said that “the situation is certainly attracting attention” but that “it does not in any way affect the quality of the renovation” and that the work “must be completed by the end of this year”.

He also stated: “As of now, we have no contact with the owner of the vehicle. We appeal to him to turn himself in. We do not know the reasons why he parked the car this way, despite the work being done.”
