Girl, 13, 'sexually assaulted' in stands at football match as police investigate

Police have launched an investigation after a 13-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted during a Scottish Premiership football match.

The alleged assault is claimed to have occurred during the fixture between Dundee and Rangers last Wednesday, November 1, in the Bob Shankly Stand at the Scot Foam Stadium (Dens Park), where away supporters are sat.

Kick-off for the fixture had been delayed by 45 minutes after the Rangers team bus was caught in traffic on the way to the ground. The game was then suspended for a further 18 minutes due to Rangers supporters setting off flares which caused the fire alarms to go off.

A spokesman for Police Scotland has now confirmed an investigation is under way. They said in a statement: "We are carrying out enquiries following an allegation of sexual assault involving a 13-year-old girl which happened at Dens Park in Dundee on November 1."

A spokesman for Dundee Football Club said: "Dundee Football Club can confirm we are aware of an incident which took place in the Bob Shankly stand during Wednesday’s match against Rangers.

"The club are fully supporting the police investigation and the club’s child welfare and protection officer is supporting the situation.

"As this is an ongoing police investigation the club will be making no further comment."
