Could Adam Barlow's Coronation Street days be numbered after Damon Hay points a gun at his love rivals' head in dramatic scenes as part of a shocking revenge plot.

The criminal's return to Weatherfield sees the drug lord, played by actor Ciaran Griffiths, hold the lawyer at gunpoint as his cobbles comeback turns explosive. Fans are left wondering it will be the last we see of Adam, Scottish star Sam Robertson, after the heart-racing scenes.

We've not clapped eyes on Damon for months, the crook saying goodbye after bedding Sarah behind the back of her husband. Things clearly have not calmed and the long triangle turns even more toxic as our photos from the set of the ITV soap clearly show.

The affair resulted in a baby bombshell, Sarah miscarrying their love child and Damon didn't stick around the pick up the pieces. We last saw him speeding off in his car but the problem was never go away just like that with many residents having grudges against him.

Corrie boss Iain MacLeod recently confirmed two villains will be returning and it's not just Damon they have got to worry about. Speaking to press recently, including the Mirror, Iain announced the upcoming winter storylines, revealing that both he and Harvey Gaskell will be back.

He teased: "It kicks off, almost in the first moment of the New Year, as it is revisiting the unfinished business between Adam, Sarah and Damon. So yeah, we arrive in the New Year. Adam and Sarah are rubbing along okay and they're trying to amicably co-parent Harry as per the agreement when they split up. It's going alright, and then suddenly, wallop, Adam finds himself in this nightmarish situation all at the hands of Damon, who has unexpectedly come back."

Saying that Damon has been plotting his revenge, Iain said: "The first of [Damon's plans] is that he wants to get his revenge on Adam and the second of them is that he wants Sarah back because he feels like she's 'the one' and he will essentially have to contend with the fact that these two plans might not be compatible, like can he have his revenge and also have Sarah? The answer might well be 'no'. So which one is he going to choose? It's a brilliant, exciting, high-octane story."

However, Iain added: "Just in case you thought that was all going to be smooth running from there or plain sailing from there. Adam can't stand the idea that this guy's back and he's maybe got his sights on Sarah, who at this point, is still his wife although they are going through a divorce.

"He decides in his mind that to protect Sarah, he might want rid of Damon so as Damon's calming down, Adam's going in another direction and his plans to rid himself of Damon will see him pay a little visit to Damon's half-brother, Harvey, because he's no fan of Damon's either, and they might form this unholy alliance. They have a shared problem in the form of Damon and they think they can help each other in that regard."

airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and X.
