Levy's private message to Pochettino speaks volumes after return admission

Daniel Levy and Mauricio Pochettino's fractured relationship has seemingly been repaired ahead of the Argentine's return to Tottenham on Monday night.

The damage had been done prior to Levy wielding the axe back in November 2019: a decision to that left both Pochettino and the club reeling. Almost four years to the day of his brutal exit, Pochettino is set to ride back into town as the head coach of Chelsea.

And while it remains to be seen what type of reception Pochettino will get from the regulars at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, his reunion with Levy may not as frosty as previously expected given he messaged his old manager to wish him luck at Stamford Bridge.

That's according to a report from The Mail who have delved deeper into the background Pochettino's exit. The report also outlines how the rift between the duo has been healed over time, with Levy reaching out to Pochettino via text after his appointment at Spurs' London rivals was confirmed back in May an example of this.

It's claimed that Pochettino was 'keen' on returning to the club he called home for five-and-a-half years in the summer. Spurs, however, opted to go down the route of appointing a fresh voice in the form of Ange Postecoglou: a decision which has already paid dividends.

Spurs head into Monday's night clash unbeaten and with the knowledge that a win would send them back to the summit of the Premier League. Chelsea, meanwhile, are in transition under their new head coach, who has overseen mixed results.

Although Pochettino is still finding his feet at Chelsea, he refused to rule out the prospect of one day returning to Tottenham - even though he first stressed that he hoped to remain with the Blues for a long time.

“Hopefully, I can stay here [at Chelsea] until I die!” Pochettino replied when he was sounded out about a potential return to north London by reporters. “20 or 25 years, but you never know in football. It [Tottenham] is a club, for sure if I’m not working, maybe if they want me one day, why not?

“Who knows? It’s a club like Southampton or Espanyol or Newell’s Old Boys. It’s like life, you never know what is going to happen tomorrow. We need to enjoy today and I think now at 51, I am thinking more about that, enjoy today and not look too much into the future, in the long term. But, why not?”
