Formula 1 fans have sided with Martin Brundle after he broke his silence following a painful conversation with Machine Gun Kelly in Sao Paulo.

Brundle tried in vain to get answers out of the rapper when they encountered one another on the grid ahead of the Grand Prix in Brazil. The American was less receptive than other big names, with the likes of Brazilian football legend Marta happy to speak to the interviewer.

It wasn't the first time things have got awkward for former F1 driver Brundle, who was snubbed by Megan Thee Stallion in the United States in 2021. He invoked that moment when addressing the latest setback, with fans giving him their backing.

Brundle shared a photo of Megan Thee Stallion, Machine Gun Kelly and actress Megan Fox on social media, saying: "Finally, my claim to fame, I’ve met two of these three people. I do appreciate them taking some time out on the grid for our great sport … I hope they didn’t find me too weird."

"You weren't the weird one Martin don't worry," one reply read. "Nah they’re the weird ones for disrespecting the GOAT" said another, while a third called for Formula 1 to invite Fox onto the grid in Las Vegas next time out to help "complete the trifecta".

"Martin, you are the star," another fan wrote. "I wish I was important enough to meet you, these “stars” aren’t Worthy of your time … don’t apologise."

After taking several goes to give a blunt answer to Brundle's question about his career, Machine Gun Kelly was more receptive when asked about Formula 1 itself. "I think your business is great," he replied.

"It's loud, your life is on the line and that's exciting. I was in a studio the other week and Lewis Hamilton was in the other studio. That was nice, yeah."

On the track, it wasn't the best of days for Hamilton, who lost ground to Sergio Perez in the battle for second spot in the drivers' standings. The British driver finished eighth while the Mexican was fourth, leaving Hamilton with a 32-point gap to make up in the final two races of the season.

Max Verstappen led from the front once more, showing no signs of slowing down after wrapping up the Drivers' Championship with several weeks to spare. Lando Norris took second spot, while Fernando Alonso finished third to seal a first podium finish since back in August.

There are still a few loose ends to tie up in the final two races of the season. The drivers will stay in the Americas next time out, with Las Vegas welcoming Verstappen and his rivals, before the season ends with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
