The family of a child who lost his life in a mass shooting are pleading for information.

Just before 9:30pm local time on Friday, gunfire erupted in the West End area of Cincinnati, prompting a response from the police. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered six injured people, including juveniles. Police said that the unknown gunman quickly fired 22 rounds from a dark sedan. Among the victims was an 11-year-old boy named Dominic Davis, who tragically lost his life in the shooting.

At a news conference Sunday, Dominic's dad, Isaac Davis, asked anyone with information that could lead to the shooter to come forward. He said: "When will this stop? How many people have to bury their kids, their babies, their loved ones? Anybody that knows anything, come forward, please. We're begging."

Cincinnati police said that four of the injured victims were children between the ages of 12 and 15, and the fifth injured victim was a 53-year-old woman. All victims were rushed to nearby hospitals - three to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and two to the University of Cincinnati Hospital.

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center later confirmed that all three patients brought to their facility were in critical condition upon arrival. One patient was discharged overnight, while the other two remained hospitalised in critical condition.

Cincinnati Police Chief Terri Theetge expressed her outrage. She said: "This is absolutely unacceptable in our city — unacceptable that on a Friday night six people were shot in one incident. This is happening too often. People are reverting to gun violence rather than resolving disputes in a humane manner. It is not humane to pull out a firearm and shoot individuals recklessly."

Addressing the shooter from the press conference, the police chief added: "Turn yourself in. Because if you don't, we will find you and we will bring you to justice."

Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval reacted to the tragedy saying: "Children were shot. At least one life was lost. Our friends and neighbours are feeling unimaginable fear, trauma, and anger. [We must] give everything we have to deliver justice against this sickening, heartless violence."

Cincinnati City Manager Sheryl Long said: "Our entire city is grieving. [I'm] heartbroken and appalled. I will work tirelessly... to bring the perpetrators to justice. It's not enough. Violence like this cannot be our status quo. It cannot be tolerated."
