The harrowing testimony of destruction and death in Gaza from traumatised Liverpool surgeon Abdel Hammad, will reinforce calls for a ceasefire.
The injuries, killing and misery inflicted on Palestinians by Israeli forces fighting to destroy Hamas after the October 7 carnage is disproportionate in a Gaza under siege. Likening the crisis and devastation to that witnessed across Europe during World War II, Hammad’s is a cry from the heart for humanity.
Hamas was guilty of the most heinous crimes on October 7 when it butchered 1,400 Israelis and seized in excess of 200 hostages. Taking the lives of many thousands of Palestinians in pursuit of Hamas may be a crime too. The NHS consultant is lucky that he got out. It’s agonising that many blameless, trapped Palestinians aren’t as fortunate, forced to stay with nowhere to go.
Tainted Tories
Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden must do more than deny that rape allegations against a Tory MP were covered up during his time running the Conservative party’s headquarters.
Urging anybody in general with concerns about the MP to go to the police is not a sufficient response given the seriousness of the claims made by Nadine Dorries.
