Coronation Street's dramatic kidnap and shooting as vengeful character returns

ITV Coronation Street fans are in for a dramatic twist in the show, as Damon Hay is set to hold rival Adam Barlow up at gunpoint in a shock revenge plot.

Damon, played by Ciaran Griffiths, will return to the cobbles after fleeing the street when his affair with Adam's wife Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien) resulted in her getting pregnant. But drug dealer Damon will be back with a vengeance, with his sights set on revenge on Adam Barlow after he ran him out of town.

New exclusive sneak peek images show Adam (Sam Robertson) with a hood over his head and a gun pointed at him. But fans of the show will have to wait until next year to see just how the plot unfolds, with Corrie writer Iain Mcleod revealing there is unfinished business between the three of them.

Sarah fell pregnant with Damon's baby

He said: "The story kicks off almost in the first moment of the new year. It's revisiting the unfinished business between Adam, Sarah and Damon. We arrive in the new year and Adam and Sarah are rubbing along okay, they are trying to amicably co-parent Harry Platt [Freddie and Isaac Rhodes] as per their agreement when they split up. It is going alright and then suddenly, wallop, Adam finds himself in this nightmarish situation, all at the hands of Damon who has unexpectedly come back.

"In our mind, he has been somewhere away from Coronation Street plotting his revenge and it arrives as a fairly blunt force on the first episode of the new year. The story then becomes a love triangle where Damon, who has also been pining for Sarah, comes back with a two-pronged plan.

"He wants to get his revenge on Adam and also he wants Sarah back because he feels like she is the one and he will essentially have to contend with the fact these two plans might not be compatible, can he have his revenge and have Sarah?"

Although he initially tried to work things out with Sarah, Adam couldn't get over what had happened with Damon, and ended their marriage. But when Adam heard about Sarah being attacked by Stephen, played by Todd Boyce, he realised how strong his feelings are for his wife.

Tina admitted she doesn't know where the storyline is heading. She told Digital Spy: "It's interesting because I have no idea how this is going to go with the writers. Sarah obviously made some really stupid decisions. She had an affair with Damon and then lied about who the baby's father was. They've been through a lot and I think she has pushed that relationship so far that I'm not sure if the trust can ever be fixed."

The soap star added that it's "beautiful" that Adam and he character Sarah still have a lot of love between them, but is unsure which way the audience will want it to go.
