The pomp and glamour of the Playboy mansion had the whole world eager for a glimmer of what life was like inside back in its heyday, and those involved appeared to live a luxurious A-lister life.

One such Playboy model was Jessica Landon. From the outside, she appeared to lead a pretty lavish lifestyle. As a Playboy star, the 26-year-old became one of the biggest and most demanded models, while partying with Hugh Hefner at the Playboy Mansion.

However, she had been hiding a crippling alcohol addiction since her early twenties. As her Playboy career skyrocketed, her health spiralled out of control and she was left with horrific injuries and health problems as a result of her illness. Jessica finally became sober in 2014, after a number of harrowing setbacks.

By the time she was 26, the former model was downing vodka 24 hours a day and had suffered appalling injuries and health problems as a result of her addiction. After moving into a friend's attic, one day, Jessica tripped over the stair rail, landed on her head and suffered a baseball-sized brain haemorrhage. She tried to go sober but a few months later she suffered a heartbreaking relapse and admits she drank vodka all day, every day, for a month. Jessica's organs started to fail as she lay, unmoving in the same spot, among her own filth.

Horrifyingly, the huge amount of spirits she was drinking 24 hours a day turned her own urine into acid, which started to eat her own skin. Jessica believes her descent into addiction stemmed after she said she was molested when she was just five by a babysitter. She explained how her problem took hold of her life and how she hid her illness from those around her. She previouisly revealed: "I was an 'in the closet' drinker (sometimes literally) from the very start, rarely drinking in public or at parties but rather surreptitiously. Liquor was the magic medication I had been searching for, the only thing that could relieve me from my anxiety/panic and shame I felt on the inside."

The model was just 19-year-old when she moved from Rancho Cucamonga, California, USA, to Los Angeles to pursue her dream of becoming a model. She soon secured work modelling for Playboy and Perfect 10, as well as acting on Nickelodeon, NBC and Comedy Central shows.

Despite her incredible success, Jessica says there was always "an emptiness". She explained: "Now looking back, I see that I was perpetually trying to fill that void with things like alcohol, love, and food. You only live once was my motto. Which was more of a justification for not taking care of myself or my health. When I was really young I was molested by a babysitter which led to a lot of guilt and shame.

"I, (as a lot of children do) felt that I did something to cause it and that it was somehow my fault which I think contributed to my addiction/punitive self-destruction. By the time I was 26 years old, I was a 24-hour-a-day vodka drinker. I'd pass out at night and wake up in a panic, shaking violently, so I kept vodka in a water bottle next to my bed to chug if I accidentally slept too long and hit withdrawals. I was vomiting blood on a regular basis. It became a living hell.

"I lay on his floor and nearly drank myself to death. I was incapable of getting up to use the restroom because I was too weak and atrophied, so I laid there urinating and defecating on myself for over a month in one spot. The acid from my urine was eating away the skin on my hips and tailbone which ultimately caused a blood staph infection. I knew I was dying rapidly and became desperate.

"I called an ex and begged for help. By the grace of God, he showed up the next morning with an ambulance." It was the wake-up call Jessica needed and she has now completely transformed her life, working as a recovery coach to help others in the same position she was once in. Determined to do all she can to support others, Jessica has been sober since January 3, 2014, and wants her story of recovery to inspire others.

She said: "Helping others is profoundly rewarding and it creates a sense of belonging which I think is healthy for the soul. I think sharing our stories with each other is very powerful and healing. Being broken down and cracked open (in whatever way) is such a blessing because the world needs people to be open. Alcohol is ubiquitous and yet it kills more people annually than all other drugs combined. To me, it is a true socio-cultural malignancy. The way it is advertised and glorified everywhere should be banned or at least limited."
