Raya opens up on Arsenal dressing room reaction after Arteta's furious tirade
David Raya has admitted the Arsenal dressing room are "frustrated" following their controversial defeat to Newcastle.
Raya was at fault for Anthony Gordon's winner just after the hour mark when he flapped at Joe Willock's cross. The ball found its way to Gordon, by way of Joelinton, with the Newcastle star firing in what proved to be the winner.
The goal was checked extensively by VAR Andy Madley, who confirmed the ball had not gone out of play, that Joelinton had not fouled Gabriel and that Gordon was not offside. But the decision to award the goal has left Raya and his teammates furious.
“What I could see was the ball went out of play, and then after going to the dressing room, looking back at the goal, it’s a big foul on Gabi. He’s pushing him with two hands on his back when he’s about to clear the ball," he said.
“On the other hand, it could have been an offside position, that’s harder to see. But the ball is out of play and the foul is a massive decision that’s just going to cost us some points. We’re really frustrated.

Raya insisted that the Gunners deserved at least a point from the clash at one of the toughest places to travel to in the Premier League. The Spaniard though conceded that his side now need to focus on their upcoming games.
“We defended very well. I don’t think they had a shot on target, we kept them very quiet, we defended very well, and I thought we played very well. We got into really good positions, we were positive," he said.
"We were winning duels, we were competing against one of the teams in the division, especially away from home - it’s a tough place to come. So, we are very happy with the performance but very frustrated with the result.
“We’re going to have to start winning games again, and hopefully, we can go on a longer unbeaten run in the Premier League. Now our focus is Sevilla on Wednesday at home, that’s another massive game for us. All we can say, is we want the three points."
Raya was echoing his manager with his frustrations, with Mikel Arteta having launched a furious rant in his press conference after the game. Arteta branded the decision to award the goal "embarrassing and disgraceful".
"I feel embarrassed. But I have to be the one now coming here to try to defend the club and please ask for help because it’s an absolute disgrace that this goal is allowed, it’s an absolute disgrace," he fumed.
"It's an absolute disgrace. Again, I feel embarrassed, I've been more than 20 years in this country, and this is nowhere near the level to describe this as the best league in the world. I am sorry."
