Mbappe's £87m transfer agreement with PSG 'leaves Real Madrid on red alert'

Real Madrid are growing increasingly confident that they will poach Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain for nothing in the summer.

Mbappe, 24, has been linked with the Spanish giants for years and came close to signing for them in 2022 before a late change of heart saw him re-commit to PSG. However, it is anticipated that the France international will finally grace the Bernabeu once said contract comes to an end in the coming months.

It was revealed earlier this year that the final season of the deal Mbappe signed was optional, meaning he would be free to leave Paris at the end of the 2023/24 campaign. And despite PSG's reluctance to lose their talisman for nothing, a contractual compromise has seemingly seen them come round to the idea.

That's according to Diario AS, who claim that while a fresh contract extension still hasn't been completely ruled out, PSG are no longer desperate to bring in a sizeable fee for the striker. That is in small part due to the fact that Mbappe has agreed to forego around €100million (£87m) in loyalty bonuses which he would have been owed at the end of his tenure - leaving Real Madrid on red alert.

The former Monaco man agreed to that following talks after he was exiled from the PSG team amid speculation he would walk away from the French champions for nothing. Since returning to the fold, Mbappe has fired 10 league goals in as many matches.

While Madrid remains Mbappe's likeliest destination next summer, other clubs are also admirers of the forward, including Liverpool. The Reds were linked with Mbappe before he agreed to stay on at PSG two years ago.

La Liga chief Javier Tebas outlined back in September that he strongly believed Mbappe would finally move to Spain in 2024 - but he stopped short of claiming the transfer would definitely happen.

When he was asked if he was convinced Mbappe would join Madrid by Movistar Plus, Tebas replied: “Convinced, convinced, no. But it is a destiny for him, for sure. Next year it will be more than 70-80 percent.”

Mbappe has scored a club-record 224 goals in 272 games since joining PSG back in 2018 in a £166m deal. Since then, Mbappe has established himself as one of the finest footballers on the planet, winning trophies and accolades with both club and country.
