Bob Mortimer's health update as he shares the hobby he's had to give up

Bob Mortimer will be back on our screens tonight when he takes part in Celebrity Gogglebox as part of Channel 4's Stand Up To Cancer special.

The comedian will be appearing with Richard Ayoade and is just one of the big names taking part in the very special night of entertainment. Harry Hill and Tim Vine will also be taking part, along with viewer favourites Mary and Giles, the Siddiquis and Jenny and Lee for a night in front of the box. Other celebs who have signed up for the Gogglebox special are Nicole Scherzinger and her fiance Thom Evans and Stephen Graham and Hannah Walters also letting us in on family life with their children, Grace and Alfie. Jennifer Saunders and her daughter Beattie Edmondson will also be taking part.

Bob has been battling health issues for several years and has said that his health issues are now "dominating [his] life", revealing that they had forced him to give up a passion of his. Over the years, the comedian has experienced a number of health scares, including needing triple heart bypass surgery in 2015. He was admitted to hospital in September 2022, with him saying at the time that he wasn't "very healthy," though a rep later said that he was doing fine.

Appearing on Sunday Brunch with Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer, Bob opened up about his health issues when he was asked about pal Paul Whitehouse, 64. Bob has appeared alongside Paul on BBC series Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing since 2018. Asked about their health, specifically their hearts, Bob said: "They're doing fine." He added: "When you get to my age, it's your joints that go. That's what dominates your life".

He cited knees and elbows as examples, before revealing that he's had to give up a passion of his because of such issues. He shared: "I used to love preparing an exterior of a property ready to paint, but I can't do that anymore". He suggested on the show that doing so would cause issues with his shoulders. He gestured that he can't move his arms and shoulders like he could when he was younger.
