When is the John Lewis 2023 Christmas advert coming out?
John Lewis has confirmed that we can expect to see the full advert on Thursday November 9. This matches up with the usual tradition of releasing the advert on a Thursday. The advert has previously hit screens between November 4 and November 15 for almost ten years. But, the department store used to wait until December to release it.

Ever since then, they aired their highly-anticipated adverts between November 4 and November 15. For three years, between 2018 and 2020, they aired it closer to the middle of the month.
Last year, the advert was released on November 10. In 2021, they released it on November 5. Before the release date was confirmed by the brand, an email was reportedly sent to customers revealing the advert is "almost here". It read: "The anticipation is growing… Our new Christmas ad is almost here. Become a My John Lewis member and download our app by 31 October to watch it first on launch day."
What is the Christmas advert about?
The John Lewis usually involves viewers at home tearing up at the whatever touching message the retailer has decided to portray that year.
A small teaser clip has been released on the store's Instagram page, with fans already scrambling to work out what the rest of the advert might include. The video post is captioned "Christmas begins 9 November #TraditionsGrow", which confirms the release date.
The clip features a young boy dressed in a plaid shirt as he asks: "Gran can I have this?" He then holds up a small tin which has a picture of four people on the front and it says: "Grow your own perfect Christmas tree".
The sneak peek ends with the boy opening up the box and showing a seed, with many still left wondering what the rest of the advert could be about. However, many noticed that he managed to leave out the magic word when he asked his gran for the present.
Taking to the comments one viewer said: "Any other Mums out there watch this and think…. please?!," while another wrote: "Can I have this PLEASE???"
Its 2022 advert had a father go out of his way to bond with a child from the system. The ad was accompanied by a cover of Blink-182's All The Small Things. In 2021, their ad focused on the friendship between a young boy named Nathan and a space traveller called Skye.
As the touching story of a first Christmas unfolds and friendship blossoms, Jordan visits his new pal every day and teaches her about festive traditions from the must-have Christmas jumper to putting up fairy lights.
Emotions yo-yo between laughter as Skye makes it clear she's never seen a mince pie as she stuffs a whole one – including the foil casing – into her mouth, and the joy of seeing snow for the first time to the tear-jerking final scene when the ship has been repaired and the friends must say goodbye.
