Actress apologises for 'ignorant' Johnny Depp and Amber Heard Halloween costume
Emily Hampshire is best known for her role on Schitt's Creek as Stevie Budd, but she recently made headlines for her choice of Halloween costume.
The 42-year-old actress and a friend dressed up as Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, upsetting many social media users. Emily dressed in a suit similar to the one the Pirates of the Caribbean actor wore while in court last year, along with fake tattoos and facial hair.
Her friend dressed as Amber, wearing an outfit similar to one Amber wore in court, and appeared to be fake crying in the photos Emily posted on Instagram. Emily took down the photos after facing backlash online and replaced them with her apology.

The apology read: "I want to address what is one of the most thoughtless, insensitive, and ignorant things I’ve ever done. For Halloween, I stupidly thought it would be funny to dress as Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. I am deeply sorry and ashamed for putting something that awful out in the universe.”
'Tense, eerie and claustrophobic - I'm already hooked on thriller The Rig'It finished: "Domestic abuse is never, ever funny. These are real issues with real people and I REALLY regret my actions. In the future I will do better. I’m so sorry."
Social media users shared their outrage at Emily and her friend's outfits. One Twitter user wrote: "It really is a special kind of depraved to keep the costumes going a full year and a half later."
Another added: "So you hate victims of domestic abuse @emilyhampshire huh? Good to know." Emily's apology also seemed to enrage people as well, thinking it wasn't enough.
"This apology is not nearly enough to be forgiven, considering the severity of your choices. You didn’t accidentally like a dumb tweet as a kid, Emily," One social media user wrote. Another mocked the words in her apology, writing: "Thoughtless? You had the time to draw his tattoos on your hand and carry a wine bottle."
Last year, Johnny and Amber were in a highly publicised trial where Johnny sued his ex-wife for libel. They both accused each other of domestic violence and creating a toxic relationship. In June 2022, a Virginia jury found Amber guilty of libel and awarded Johnny $15million (about £12.29 million) in damages. After Amber appealed the ruling, the two settled in December of that year.
