Strictly fans furious as Krishnan Guru-Murthy forced to show off weight loss
Some ITV viewers felt comfortable earlier today as Strictly Come Dancing star Krishnan Guru-Murthy was urged to show off the results of his weight loss on live TV.
The Channel 4 journalist, 53, and his professional dance partner Lauren Oakley appeared on Lorraine ahead of their couples choice dance on Saturday night, but Lorraine Kelly's stand-in presenter Ranvir Singh was also keen to discuss guest Krishnan's body transformation.
As she commented on the broadcaster's weight loss - he's shed two-and-a-half stone in a matter of months - Ranvir then noted how his jacket looked slightly too big for him. The Preston born presenter then told the Strictly star: "Can I just say, that jacket looks very loose on you."
"Yeah well everything is loose on me," Krishnan jokingly replied, before Ranvir asked him to stand up to reveal his jacket had been pinned at the back in order to create a tighter fit. "This is how much weight this man has lost, he has got safety pins! It doesn't fit you anymore! What has happened to your body?" Ranvir exclaimed on live TV.
"Oh dear you weren't supposed to see that. I have got this belt that was normally there, and is now there," Krishan explained as he pointed to the old loop and the new loop. "I am keeping this belt forever! It has seven holes."
Strictly's Molly Rainford and Tyler West fuel romance rumours while on tourAs Krishnan shared a backstage snap with fans on Twitter, also known as X, fans were quick to flood the star with compliments, with one telling the newsreader: "love your shirt Krishnan ! can you wear these for the news ? would jazz things up a bit." Another added: "Good luck for Saturday! Loving your Strictly story."
However, not every viewer was happy with the interview. In a now-deleted tweet, one Twitter (X) user tweeted the official account for the Lorraine show and fumed: "Imagine a female being on the show and comparing her size on TV, before and after pics. People would see it very differently. Feel sorry for @krishgm distasteful comments."
Speaking ahead of his first Strictly Come Dancing, Krishnan revealed he unwittingly prepared for the BBC series by going on a huge health kick earlier this year and lost a significant amount of weight. The Channel 4 journalist said in September that it felt like the right time to agree to competing in the dance competition, but confessed he doesn't see himself as "a fit person" and worried if he would actually be physically able to take on the challenge.
"To say preparing would be a massive overstatement of the truth," he admitted when quizzed about how he'd been preparing before his first dance ahead of the first live show. "I have done ten days of Pilates. I have lost a lot of weight earlier this year, I went on this massive health kick in April/May and I lost about eleven kilos and so I am sure that under normal circumstances I would have put most of it back on. But, I have tried very hard to keep that weight off, so that is probably the extent of my training which was quite hard when you have been on holiday."
The Strictly star went on to add: "Everything about it is a big challenge. The biggest thing I am scared of, is physically not being able to do this. I am not a fit person and I have never exercised really. I am overweight and I have got loads of things wrong me, so that’s been my biggest worry about whether I can actually physically do it. Then of course, there is the basic question of, can I dance? and I don’t know the answer to that, I will find out!"
