MAFS UK couple call it quits as upset viewers urge stars to 'move on'

Married At First Sight UK couple Sean Malkin and husband Mark Kiel faced their demons during Wednesday night's explosive episode on E4.

The same-sex couple have had a tricky few weeks, with doubts being cast over the pair's relationship. It was during tonight's dinner party letter opening that Sean decided to bring Mark in for a serious chat about their future.

Emotional scenes saw Mark sob as Sean called time on the two's whirlwind marriage, despite help from the on-hand professionals Mel Schilling, Paul Carrick Brunson and Charlene Douglas. After hearing what their co-stars thought of their romance, Sean decided enough was enough and broke the news to Mark.

"You know, it was a really tough letter to read because it was true," he explained. "It just gives us some clarity on how I've been feeling. I'm pretty sure I know what I'm going to do now after reading this letter. It just needs to be done."

"I need to be true to myself on this one, and after this letter as well, I don't see this going any further. I'm going to leave," Sean tells Mark before he's left sobbing, "you've hurt me," he replied. Fans flocked to X, formally Twitter, to give their reaction.

"Awww Mark I want to give you the biggest cuddle! Sean’s head really wasn’t in the right place for this experiment and that wasn’t fair on you #MAFSUK," wrote one viewer. While another added: "I really feel for Mark. Sean clearly has some deep issues he should have dealt with before involving another person."

A third commented: "This is a tough watch, but of course Sean doesn’t feel the same way. It’s sad, but it’s best to call it quits. Grief for what you lost or might have had. And then move on. Both your princes are out there."

Earlier this week, after considering their possible future together, Sean seemed unconvinced that their marriage could work. Mark, in contrast, was desperate to make the relationship work. The other contestants during Tuesday night’s show were subjected to a couple’s swap - but Mark and Sean were exempt from the challenge.

In a confessional, Sean said to the camera: “It’s probably been good for me to spend a bit of time away from Mark. It’s really let me get some clarity on how I’m feeling. I definitely need to give him the opportunity to speak as well.” He added: “I don’t want to hurt him.”

Sitting beside his husband, Sean said: “I thought I needed to come up and have a bit of a chat.” Mystified, Mark asked: “What’s going on?” Sean went on to explain that he was “emotionally shattered” by the marriage. He said: “My fear is if we keep going, it’s just going to get worse.” Then, seemingly signalling the death knell for the marriage, he added: “I don’t see this going any further than friendship.”

Mark was blindsided by the statement and declared in a confessional of his own: “I didn’t know what Sean was going to say, but I did not expect this.” He added: “I don’t get it, at all. It’s a bombshell.”
