A group of ISIS-affiliated terrorists who killed two British honeymooners have died in a shootout with the Ugandan army.

Newlyweds David and Celia Barlow were celebrating their recent marriage when they were killed at Queen Elizabeth National Park in Uganda last month, along with Eric Alyai, the driver of their vehicle.

Local police publicly identified the ISIS-linked militant group Allied Democratic Forces as behind the “cowardly” attack shortly afterwards.

Speaking today, Ugandan military deputy spokesman Deo Akiiki said: "ADF terrorists whom we have been tracking down since the attack on tourists were finally got and a number of them were killed last night on Lake Edward. The operation is still on to finish all the splinter groups of ADF."

It is not yet known exactly how many of the group were killed. A group identifying as Islamic State claimed responsibility on its Telegram channel the day after the attack.

Tributes poured in for Mr and Mrs Barlow from the village of Hampstead Norreys, near Newbury, Berkshire. Their local cricket group paid tribute after the “tragic deaths”. Hampstead Norreys Cricket Club said that Dave had been a “constant” around the club for years, and “among the many of us who had the privilege to share a joke with him, play cricket with him, and watch as he took wicket after wicket with his famously slow action was a treat.”

Their tirbute continued: “He was at the time this incident occurred with the most important person in his life, a woman who we all knew so well, as Dave was so proud to share all of Celia's achievements. She too was an amazing human being, who will be desperately missed. Lord Barlow as we fondly know him by will be with us forever. The entire club's thoughts and prayers are with Dave and Celia's families right now.”
