In his new memoir Loosely Based on a Made-Up Story, singer-songwriter James Blunt opens up candidly about his personal life, revealing a new side fans of his music and wry tweets may not have previously seen. Indeed, although the 49-year-old is now happily married to the aristocrat Sofia Wellesley, he's also had a fair few wild moments in his life.

The no-holds-barred book, which is of course shot through with James' self-deprecating sense of humour, details a number of memorable events from the dad-of-two's life, from his close friendship with the beloved late Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher to his romance with Lindsay Lohan.

Blame over Carrie Fisher's death

In his memoir, James spoke fondly of the many happy times he shared with his friend Carrie Fisher, who was also godmother to his son. Carrie sadly passed away from a heart attack in December 2016, leaving James and so many others completely devastated. James has now claimed that Carrie's daughter Billie Lourd held him to blame for her death and that they are no longer on speaking terms.

Remarking that Carrie's drug addiction had become "obvious enough to be of concern", James wrote: "Charlie, her best friend, confronted her more directly and told her she needed to quit drugs, but was ostracised by her as a result. I took a different approach and did them with her, pretending to myself that I would guide her to redemption one day – just not today. The lies we tell ourselves are the hardest to forgive. As a result, her daughter Billie blames me in part for her death, and no longer speaks to me."

In a 2017 interview with People magazine, Billie said: "My mom battled drug addiction and mental illness her entire life. She ultimately died of it. She was purposefully open in all of her work about the social stigmas surrounding these diseases."

Fling with Lindsay Lohan

In another part of the book, James detailed his romance with Mean Girls star Lindsay Lohan, which began back in 2007 after they left an LA nightclub together. He recalled: "As I drove us out of the parking lot with the paps chasing behind on foot, the girl I'd just met climbed out of the passenger seat, straddled me, and shoved her tongue down my throat – and that's how I met Lindsay Lohan.

"After a brief pit stop at Jamie Foxx's hotel room, where he and a few friends were drinking, Lindsay and I headed back to hers. By now it was late, but she'd invited a few people over. They were all pretty messy. I was recording the next day, so at around 3 am I told her I was heading home. Lindsay begged me not to leave. She told me that I should just climb into her bed and she promised me that she'd be there in half an hour. Taking me by the hand, she led me to the bedroom, put me in her bed, kissed me, and left – and I fell asleep with the sound of the party in the background."

Shortly afterward, James was reportedly awoken by Lindsay's security guard who told him he needed to leave the apartment. Lindsay apparently made her interest clear, however, by asking the pop star to join her at a Hollywood Hills party just four days later.
