Wrexham chairmen Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney could not hide their delight after their team got one over on old foes Notts County - especially after their rivals' fans made their feelings known about their documentary.

The Hollywood stars lavished plaudits upon their triumphant team after they landed a major blow on their nemeses in the race for League Two promotion. Phil Parkinson's men stunned the home side with a quickfire double in the second half via Elliot Lee and Ollie Palmer to emerge as 2-0 winners.

The Red Dragons famously locked horns with the Magpies during last season's National League title run-in, as the Welsh outfit eventually came out on top. A memorable 3-2 win for Wrexham over their main challengers in April would prove pivotal as they would secure automatic promotion to the EFL.

As a result, it would appear that there is no love lost between the two sets of supporters following their battle for promotion last term, meaning this latest victory will taste even sweeter for Dragons fans. Prior to this latest clash, the modern rivalry was demonstrated via the refusal of Notts County fans to take part in the 'Welcome to Wrexham' TV series.

Such is the animosity following their titanic tussle for the title last term, that supporters from the Notts County Supporters Group even refused to speak on camera for the FX documentary. In a clip shared to TikTok, it was clear that Wrexham's famous owners very much saw the funny side after the rejection.

Reynolds explained: “The producers sent the sweetest: 'Hey we would like to interview Notts, you guys are having an amazing season,' before his co-chairman interjected in hysterics as he struggled to contain his amusement, adding: "And the response is so good. It’s so great."

McElhenney proceeded to then show what appeared to be a text message response from the Notts County Supporters Group, who let the documentary's producers know exactly how they felt in no-uncertain terms, with a barbed rebuttal that read: "'No. Shove your s**** documentary up your a***.'"

In an apparent attempt to smooth over the increasingly fraught relations between the two camps, the producers would simply reply with a heart emoji. Still, the Wrexham co-owners still very much had the last laugh as their team got the better of their rivals in their latest grudge match.

As the Hollywood pair celebrated their two-year anniversary in charge at the Racecourse Ground, their players put in a fitting performance on the road. Hailing a crucial 2-0 victory on his Twitter/ X page, Reynolds hailed the victory, saying: "HUGE WIN AWAY," while adding: "Loved seeing Ben Tozer back on the pitch."

Likewise, McElhenney was similarly impressed with the away victory over last year's promotion rivals as he took to Twitter/ X to praise Wrexham's players. In a simple vote of confidence, he said: "Stars gonna star."
