Rishi Sunak’ s plan to build a wooden barrier around his Yorkshire mansion will scare off wildlife, claim angry locals.

The Prime Minister submitted the application after eco protestors gained access to the £1.5million grade II-listed pad through an unlocked gate and scaled the roof. But villager Sarah Widdowson claims the 165ft-long fence could destroy natural habitats and become an “eyesore” in the beauty spot.

Her official objection reads: “I often park adjacent to the manor on the road and watch the badgers on a night – to change the landscape of the area with a fence is an unnecessary decision. “We should be protecting and preserving what makes our county look so beautiful, not putting up ugly and harsh fencing.”

Mr Sunak’s planning agent said the fence presents “no issues in terms of landscape impact” and will be “a simple, modest barrier to discourage incursion”.

It is down to officials at North Yorkshire Council to make the final call over the scheme in Richmond.
