A man plunged to his death from the luxury Gotham Hotel in New York and police are investigating the latest in a slew of distressing suicide incidents at the upmarket site.

The man, who remains unidentified, fell to his death from a penthouse of the hotel in posh Midtown Manhattan, on the evening of Friday, October, 27. The man died after the incident in the Diamond District just before 6.30pm, according to law enforcement officials.

The 47-year-old man landed on the second floor in the back of the building, near 5th avenue. According to NYPD, the man was pronounced dead at the scene in what police are investigating as a suicide. Emergency services arrived at the scene and ambulance crews wheeled out what appeared to be a body bag.

This is the latest in a string of people to have plunged from the top floor of the Gotham Hotel, where a one-night stay could set you back $1,000. Before, a Playboy model and her son fell to their deaths in 2018. Stephanie Adams and her seven-year-old son, Vincent, both died.

Previously married to her son’s father, Manhattan chiropractor Charles Nicolai, and the two had entered into a brutal custody battle. Adams and her son checked into the Gotham Hotel at 6pm and plunged from the same floor as in the most recent case, before 8.30am.

Authorities said she pushed Vincent, she had left no suicide note. The two landed on a second-floor balcony and were both pronounced dead at the scene.

A bell captain told the New York Post in 2018: “I suspect the boy went first. The mother just tossed the child out first, then followed him. (Guests) said they heard a light sound first, then a heavier sound. I'm still shook up about it.'” After being thrown to the ground by an NYPD cop who threw the woman to the ground after falsely accusing her of pulling a gun on him, Adams successfully sued the firm for $1.2 million.

Adams was the centrefold for Playboy in 1992, at the time out as a lesbian, making her the only one of her kind in the Playboy mansion. On her website she details dating several famous men including Elite modelling founder John Casablancas, Calvin Klein supermodel Ted Stephenson, and Robert De Niro. She met her husband, Nicolai on dating site Match.com and the two were engaged in 2009. Adams was the one who filed for divorce in 2017.
