With only eight weeks until Christmas, people may start to think about their Christmas dinner plans. As supermarkets begin to advertise their Christmas dinner food deals, shoppers can become overwhelmed with the offers and it can be tricky to pick out the best offers out there. Everyone will have their take on a Christmas dinner, some may pile on the Brussels sprouts, whereas others may steer clear, but there's always one main character on everyone's plate - the turkey.

Mostly advertised on the run-up to Christmas, it's not usually something Brits will put in their trolley when doing the weekly food shop, so it can be hard to know where to buy your Christmas turkey from. But not to worry, we've rounded up some of the best birds and where to shop for a Christmas dinner everyone will love.

Frozen food has been the best alternative for those who may be a little strapped for cash, and those looking at frozen turkeys may find it a little more affordable, but this year, be prepared to fork out even with a frozen turkey as it's been reported Aldi have hiked their prices up by 20% already.

Most supermarkets have had a 10% rise in frozen turkeys, and data by The Grocer found the average increase in the price of a frozen turkey or crown was 9.4% higher than this time last year, and the average cost per kg was up by 12% to £7.51.

The Grocer added: "The price rises in turkey come as chicken continues to see inflation, with more items seeing price hikes over the past week, according to the analysis of Assosia data for The Grocer's Key Value Items tracker.

"A whole chicken is up 24p (6%) in Aldi to £4.49 and 75p (16%) in Asda to £5.40. A whole chicken was 14% more expensive year on year in Aldi. In Sainsbury's, the price was up 15% year on year to £5.29, and in Tesco up 13% to £4.80."

Aldi

Known for its low prices, Aldi has seen the biggest year-on-year hike, with a staggering 20 per cent price jump on their Specially Selected turkey crown (1.8kg). The Grocer reported: "The SKU now costs £24.99, up from £19.99 this time last year – and it's 30 per cent more expensive when compared with mid-October 2021."

This means it's "30 per cent more expensive than two years ago" but they do stock a cheaper alternative from their Ashfields line for as little as £14.99 (which is 2.8-4.0kg).

Tesco

One of the cheapest options, their British Frozen Medium Basted Whole Turkey Bird for £20 is a winner for families looking for a good deal. To make it even better - it's rated Class A in quality and feeds four to seven people as it's 3.9kg – 5.2kg.

Asda

The most cost-effective, Asda's Large British Turkey Crown is also £20, for a 2.7kg - and serves eight to ten diners, it's a win-win. It's also available in an extra large version for £25.50, which could see Asda as the best option.

Iceland

For £25, Iceland only has one frozen turkey - Luxury The Perfect Turkey Crown and it's 2.2kg.

Morrisons

The cheapest option for Morrisons will cost you £25.88 for 2-2.39kg, but there is also the Large Basted Whole Bird 5.3-6.99kg is £30.99.

Waitrose

It's no surprise that Waitrose will see you forking out more than other places. Serving eight people, the Waitrose Frozen Medium Free Range Turkey with Giblets costs £29. There is also a cheaper alternative from their essentials range - Essential Frozen Butter Basted Turkey Crown Medium 2-2.49kg for £26.

M&S

The priciest option, it's no surprise that a Marks and Spencer's turkey will set you back a fair bit, with their turkeys costing a minimum of £40, with some reaching up to nearly £100.

Sainsbury's

The Large British Turkey Crown 2.4kg-2.8kg is £23, serving eight to 10 people.
