A dad whose flat repeatedly had water pour in through the ceiling every time it rained says it became so hellish he was forced to quit his job.

Jawan Hassan, from Liverpool, saw a large chunk of the roof fall through in July but after it was patched up it quickly returned following heavy rain in September. Social housing provider Onward Homes said they would try to find a ‘permanent fix’ at the time but on October 20, Jawan and his family had to deal with water in their home yet another time.

A recent video of the condition of his flat shows the plaster used to fix the ceiling before, covered in water and damp. There is a huge hole in the roof exposing wooden planks and an attic. Speaking on behalf of Jawan his friend, Ibrahim Mardenli, said: "It's very awful. It's too much stress for him as well as for his wife and for his kids. It affects their relationship and they have to see their GP. Jawan had to quit his job because of all the problems."

Liverpool Echo reports the dad-of-two to Leilas, five, and Roselle, three, said during a previous leak: "My daughter, she's in school, when I dropped her off she told the teacher outside what's happened to our flat. She said the roof has collapsed in my living room, we can't sit there, we can't watch TV. It's heartbreaking."

A spokesperson for Onward said: “We are very sorry that Mr Hassan’s roof has leaked again, despite our attempts to fix it, and we have apologised to Mr Hassan. We acknowledge that this has been upsetting for his family and we are doing everything we can to fix the problem so it doesn’t happen again. The fresh leak was reported to us on Friday and we visited the home on the same day. We replaced the bay roof following a previous leak in the summer. This recent leak has been caused by blocked guttering, which we have cleared.

“Qualified surveyors have inspected Mr Hassan’s home and confirmed it is safe for this family. We are now carrying out work to fix the leak. We will also cover the costs of replacing flooring and arrange to redecorate any areas that have been damaged. We are in contact with Mr Hassan to make sure he is satisfied with the new repairs and provide any other help needed.”
