Come Dine With Me viewers have been left sick to their stomachs after a “revolting” surprise was revealed to be hidden in a contestant’s trifle.

The Channel 4 show, which sees four complete strangers take it in turns to host a dinner party for one another in the hopes of bagging a cash prize of £1,000, is never shy of controversy and bitter losers.

But this week, the channel showed a classic episode of the hit cooking show, which gave viewers a little more than they bargained for.

As the contestants battled it out in the kitchen, fans were introduced to 'wannabe' glamour model Annie Rose Crone.

She was treating her guests to a 'Sausage Surprise' main course, with the surprise, Annie revealed being chicken breast.

The camera showed the contestant sprinkling grated cheese on a chicken breast, then putting a sausage in the middle, before wrapping the chicken around it.

"The surprise is actually a chicken breast. And then I've popped a cheeky sausage in the middle," she explained.

Annie went on to tell how she felt “sausages don’t get enough credit” as they can be served “all throughout the day” – “even in a trifle”.

She was then shown creating her 'Trifle With a Twist' dessert, where she made a classic trifle, but added a layer of whole cooked sausages.

“So we’re going to do a layer of blancmange, a layer of custard, a layer of sausages, a layer of custard, cream and then serve,” Annie explained.

“These are trifle-licious,” she said, much to the audience’s dismay.

Horrified viewers took to social media to express their revulsion, with one writing: “I’m convinced she didn’t even want to win.“

Another sickened viewer fumed: “SAUDAGE IN THE TRIFLE????? HOW WAS SHE ALLOWED???“ [sic]

A third wrote said: “It’s unseasoned AND SHE PUT SAUSAGE IN TRIFLE.“

“Did she follow Rachel's trifle recipe off friends?,“ [sic] another jokingly asked, making a reference to the Friends episode where Rachel Green adds beef into her trifle.

The Mirror previously revealed how one contestant took her chance at winning the show much more seriously, but claimed the show was fixed.

A former contestant lifted the lid on what goes on behind the cameras. Katy Spence appeared on a series of the hit show in 2014 and is now revealing all, from how much it cost to which bits are fake.

In a Q&A on TikTok, a follower asked Katy whether contestants get given loads of money to participate in the show, and the answer was a big, fat no.

“You get £250 and that covers your food, your entertainment and any cutlery that you need,“ she explained.

“Being that you take a gift to each contestant's house, it cost me five or six hundred pounds – that's not even including the fact that I couldn't work for the week because I was filming from about three or four o'clock every day.“

But if that wasn't shocking enough, Katy claimed producers used to fix the results to get the people who they wanted to win to get the highest score.

“During my week, one of the people absolutely should have won, their food was the best,“ she said. “But, it's hugely edited, massively staged – and they know who they want to win right from the get go.“

In a follow up clip, Katy went on to say that producers would encourage contestants to go higher or lower on their scores while filming the scenes in the taxis.
