Claudia Winkleman explains very unexpected inspiration for her Strictly outfits

Strictly's Claudia Winkleman is on the ball this year as she has themed her entire show wardrobe around snooker.

The 51-year-old draws inspiration from a different source each series. And she pocketed this year’s theme early on after a viewer said she looked like snooker player Steve Davis in the first episode. The remark prompted Claudia’s long-time stylist Sinead McKeefry to choose snooker-themed sartorial choices.

A source said: “Claudia thought the quip was very funny and there are so many bright colours on a snooker table – including the green felt – that it seemed like the perfect opportunity to have some fun.” Last year, Claudia styled all her looks on Baz Luhrmann’s
Elvis biopic.

She had a cardboard cutout of the music legend in her dressing room and wore a cape for the series finale, saying: “This year it’s the King. So yes, we end in a cape.” The 2021 series had the TV host “dressing only as France” and in April last year, she said: “We always base my outfits on a theme. It could be a person, it could be a place.

“One year, I was Andre Agassi and I have done Pam St Clement [Pat Butcher], Slash from Guns N’ Roses, Joan Rivers, Sharon Osbourne,
Anita Dobson, Elton John and Mr Darcy from Pride and Prejudice. My favourite, though, was when we dressed the whole series as the arty London restaurant Sexy Fish.”
