A disabled thief with one leg has been arrested after stealing a single trainer from a shoe shop.

Police apprehended the man a short distance from the shop as he fled on foot with a suspected accomplice. The man was wearing the stolen trainer on his foot when he was caught in Mar del Plata, Argentina, local media reports. CCTV footage allegedly shows how he took the trainer from the shop after smashing a storefront glass window.

Police say he has had several run-ins with the law in the past. He reportedly has a criminal record for attempted robbery, theft, attempted theft, theft aggravated by an attempted break-in, concealing stolen goods, and other offences. He has been charged with attempted theft in connection with the latest case. Prosecutors have ordered his pre-trial detention at a prison in Batán.

An accomplice that he was caught with was also arrested. Their names have not been released, but local media say they are aged 27 and 33 respectively. The second man has also reportedly had run-ins with law enforcement.

A blurred image of the disabled suspect following his arrest shows how he is missing his right leg from above the knee down. His hands are apparently cuffed behind his back, underneath his football shirt.
