ITV Emmerdale star shares excitement at landing 'dream job' after quitting soap

Emmerdale's Priya Kotecha actress Fiona Wade shared her excitement after landing her 'dream job' months after quitting the ITV soap.

She initially broke her silence at the beginning of this year after announcing her departure from the Dales. Now Fiona is gearing up to join famous faces such as former Casualty actor George Rainsford and The Wanted hitmaker Jay McGuiness. Hollyoaks actress Vera Chok will join the group as they make up the new cast of 2.22 A Ghost Story by Danny Robins, previously starring Cheryl Tweedy and Frankie Bridge. Taking over the role as Jenny from Cheryl, Fiona says she "can't wait".

"I am so excited to be joining the cast of 2.22 A Ghost Story," Fiona explained. "Being a part of this thrilling and brilliant play is an absolute dream. I've been a huge fan of Danny Robins for a while now so this is a part and an opportunity I cannot wait to get started on. I feel blessed and honoured to be joining such an amazing team!"

The production focuses on Jenny who believes her home is haunted but Sam, her husband, refuses to believe this. After arguing with one another over their different views, the couple stay awake until 2:22 in order to find out if their home is actually haunted.

Danny explained: "I continue to be blown away by the success of this play. It demonstrates a huge appetite and curiosity for all things paranormal. This fabulous 7th cast for the 2024 leg of the tour will bring their own energy to these characters, telling the story anew for audiences across the UK. It’s always exciting to see the play come to life again in this way. It’s such a fun night out, and if chills give you thrills you’re in for a treat."

The announcement comes after Fiona discussed her exit from Emmerdale. The actress said she struggled with the decision to leave after reports emerged in October last year that she would leave her role after first joining the show in 2011.

Describing it as "one of the hardest decisions" she has ever made, Fiona added: "Leaving my Emmerdale family is a big thing and it wasn't easy filming my last scenes. When you've been somewhere for that long and that's your every day, it's hard and feels sad. But as every actor knows, you need to challenge yourself and that's very important too," she told DigitalSpy. She went on to describe the ITV soap as a "gift of a job" adding that there are "so many blessings" with working on the beloved soap.

She said: "To be given a character that you can make yours, to have fantastic writers that enable you to grow in this amazing character. Plus, the friends you make and the experiences you have are invaluable."
