Harry Styles 'ignored' Dame Joan Collins' request in awkward Met Gala incident

Harry Styles has been criticised by Dame Joan Collins following his alleged behaviour at the 2019 Met Gala.

The music superstar acted as co-host for the famous event alongside Lady Gaga, having been specifically chosen by Dame Anna Wintour. For the 2019 event, Dame Anna chose the theme Camp: Notes on Fashion, a subtle nod to Susan Sontag's famous essay, Notes on 'Camp' which she wrote in 1964.

Stars including Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Jared Leto, Celine Dion and Cher donned their interpretation of the theme with their outfits as they packed out the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Costume Institute in New York. Attending his first Met, Harry, 29, received widespread praise for his Gucci outfit, with him turning heads with his black sheer top.

While Harry may have left everybody in a frenzy, it appears Dame Joan Collins, 90, was not impressed. The Dynasty actress has hit out at Harry and insinuated that while Cher was performing, he ignored her polite requests.

Writing in her memoir, Behind The Shoulder Pads: Tales I Tell My Friends, Harry, who is known for his flamboyancy, continued to dance as Cher belted out some of her biggest hits – despite her asking him to move. Dame Joan said: "Harry Styles jumped on the table in front of us [those sitting on her table], obscuring our view, and took no notice of our entreaties to 'Get down, we can't see!''"

She added: "The sophisticated crowd went mad for her [Cher], standing up, whooping and cheering," before writing: "Cher left after her first number then came back wearing her original Bob Mackie sleek black embroidered bodysuit and a massive black curly wig to sing Believe."

Harry walked the famous red carpet alongside former Gucci designer, Alessandro Michele, who made a conscious decision to avoid sequins and sparkles for the cheeky Cheshire chap. Meanwhile, Dame Joan stepped out in a glistening white dress as she channelled herself in Dynasty.

She had diamonds around her neck, on her eyes and even a diamond-encrusted tiara resting on her brunette locks. Discussing her time at the event, Joan said she would go back in a "heartbeat". However, it would be on one condition, as she explained: "I loved my first Met Ball, and I would certainly go again in a heartbeat, although at $30,000 [£24,700] a seat, I'll wait to be invited!"

While the details of what happens inside The Met Gala remain under wraps, some claims have emerged. Celebrities and their teams who attend must turn their phones off and members of the media are not allowed past the famous stairs. Guests are offered a formal dinner after a cocktail hour which sees them explore the exhibition inside the museum. They are then treated to a performance from a "high profile performer" which allows them to change into after-party clothes.
