Escape to the Chateau's Dick and Angel slam show axe claims in defiant chat

Dick and Angel Strawbridge have addressed their hit show Escape to the Chateau ending and alleged "clash" with Channel 4 show bosses in a defiant interview.

It comes just months after Angel, 45, and her husband Dick, 64, were sensationally dropped by Channel 4, who they had worked with for a number of years. The couple were axed by the network following an independent investigation into their conduct on the show after production company Two Rivers Media raised concerns.

They reportedly clashed with producers while filming and in a leaked audio recording, Angel could allegedly be heard calling a producer a "f***ed up little c**t." However, the two stars hit back at axed claims on Wednesday's episode of Lorraine, insisting that it was always the plan to end the series after season nine.

The two TV stars spoke to Lorraine guest host, Christine Lampard, who asked about the show ending and the explosive reports surrounding it. Christine, 44, said: "Sadly the show is now coming to an end, it's at that point, and we do know that there were a lot of headlines around as to why it was ending, how are you feeling about it now and where are you at?"

To which Dick said: "It's interesting because we were on Lorraine before Christmas [last year], explaining the end of the nine series. As a family, we made a decision that last year was going to be the finale of Escape to the Chateau so we finished.

"With that, we told everybody at the beginning of the year. That's now nearly two years ago now, everyone's known it was finishing. So when the stories sort of came and people started talking about the end of what we were doing, it wasn't news, it was something that had happened a long time in the past. We made the decision just not to get involved in any of the conversations."

To which Angel added: "Our [late] Queen said: 'Never complain, never explain!' You know, I think that was just the best way because for us, none of it made sense. We had made that family decision a long time ago that it was the right time that Escape to the Chateau had come to its natural end."

Dick then continued: "For us, as a family, this year we've finally caught up with weddings post Covid and that's ridiculous how long that has been! This year has been silly busy." To which Angel added: "We thought we'd have more time on our hands but..." The two stars appeared on Lorraine to talk about their new book, The Chateau: Forever Home.

In May, a spokesperson for Channel 4 confirmed they would not be working with Dick and Angel, confirming after a review into the claims, they had made the decision "not to work with Dick and Angel on any new productions in the future."

However, the couple later counterclaimed that in December of 2022, they made a decision to stop working with the broadcaster. In a statement, they said: "We know there are lots of stories in the press right now. It's not worth us even trying to comment or give context, because anything can be made into a good headline. We understand. There are two sides to every story and from the incredible support we have received, most of you know that."
