River Island declare 'season's hottest colour' for autumn and winter
As we approach the festive season it may come as no surprise that we’re seeing certain trends re-emerge on the high street, including sequins and velvet which have become winter staples. And according to autumn and winter 2023 catwalks, the colour of the season is set to be ‘fiery red’.
If you look at popular fashion retailers like New Look and H&M, we’ve seen a number of pieces in the primary colour online and on social media. But it’s River Island who are really leaning into the trend and making a big deal of it.
According to the brand, red looks great when worn with black and denim, Liverpool Echo reports, while grey also offers a 'less stark contrast' and can also be teamed with red. The shade worn head-to-toe provides the perfect opportunity to make a style statement, while a ‘pop of red’ is also a major trend this season, as sported by influencers like Megan Ellaby and Francesca Perks.
From blouses to structured jackets, River Island already has plenty of options to choose from. When I headed into store earlier this month red was a really prevalent trend within the store, with one of the standout pieces being this red power suit that comes as a blazer, wide leg trousers and a waistcoat.
I love these kinds of combos because you can wear all three together for a statement monochrome look, or wear the waistcoat and trousers, blazer and trousers, or each piece as separates with other items in your wardrobe. The red waistcoat would look gorgeous with a black satin midaxi skirt , while the blazer could be dressed down with jeans and a pair of trainers.
Kate Middleton swears by £19.99 rosehip oil that helps 'reduce wrinkles & scars'Another showstopper for me was this Red Chiffon Tie Front Swing Midi Dress, which comes in at £55. Leaning into the red trend, this flattering, floaty number is the ultimate festive number, date night dress for Valentine's, or for days when you just want to feel really confident. The tie detail can be worn more like a scarf and just hang in a laid back way, or tied into a pussybow to give it a more 70s feel.

Sharing the knitted styles to Instagram, she captioned the post: "All for the chunky knit now. Our autumn @nobodyschild drop with atomic reds, vintage monochrome and a touch of leopard print".
Another trend we think is going to be huge this winter is metallics, after spotting Frankie Bridge in a pair of silver trousers , as well as these shimmery M&S ballet flats.
